Meet the Founder
Hi, I am Kalpesh dewang. For me, chess has never been just a game—it is a powerful tool for building a sharp, disciplined mind. Over my years as a competitive player, I managed to reach a Peak FIDE Rating of 1882 and a Chess.com rating of 2350+.
While playing at that level taught me a lot about strategy, my true passion turned out to be teaching. I have spent the last 5+ years coaching children, including working full-time at an established, high-level chess academy right here in Pune.
Why I Started Growchess
During my years of coaching, I noticed a big problem: most chess classes are treated like casual hobbies. Kids just log in, play a few random games, and rarely show real structural improvement. Parents get frustrated because they don't see their children developing better focus or thinking skills.
I knew there had to be a better way. I wanted to treat chess like a genuine academic subject, but keep it highly engaging and fun.
That is why I rolled up my sleeves and personally designed our Proprietary 6-Course Syllabus. It is a structured, step-by-step roadmap that guides a child smoothly from absolute beginner basics all the way to advanced tournament planning over an 18-month journey.
What We Do Differently
Today, this curriculum helps students across 7+ countries replace passive screen time with real strategic confidence. Seeing a child transition from making silly, impulsive mistakes to thinking three steps ahead is the absolute best part of my job.
We don't just celebrate small victories, either—our system works on a massive scale. Just recently, one of my students from Nepal secured an official initial FIDE Rating of 1687 at a major international open tournament!
